I imagine a lot of us are in the same boat; forever looking
for that PERFECT foundation. We are waiting for that day to arrive when the
lady at the makeup counter reveals our brand new face in the mirror and we
stock up on the world’s most immaculate foundation. Alas that day has yet to
arrive
But I have found some good’uns along the way so let me run
down through my top 5 foundations I have discovered whilst on the never ending quest
to the perfect foundation. (and just for us students/postgrad/generally poor,
there’s a healthy mix of drug store with just a couple high enders thrown in
there)
1.
L’Oreal True Match £8.99
First of let me start with the fact that this range of
foundations has THE best colour range for pale skin, which is amazing for me!
Usually there is just one or two generic ‘pale’ shades and I have to make do.
But not with this, just means you have to really make sure you have the right
match (I was matched up at the counter, but not a lot of places have an actual
L’Oreal counter)
This is the foundation I go to on the normal, mundane, I
only have 10 minutes to leave the house ARRGHH kind of days. The consistency is
fab just make sure you give it a good shake first. As I said before the colour
match is perfect. It blends so easily, I use either the beauty blender or Real
Tecniques buffing brush. With a medium to full coverage you can start of light
or really build up for a fuller coverage which I love because some days I don’t
want to look like I've made any effort and I love nothing more than a multi-purpose
product!
The only down side to this foundation is that I have
reallyyyyyy oily skin so I always have to re-powder after about 3 hours. I have
heard from others with dry skin that this foundation is very hydrating so if
you have time to powder up this is an all rounder
2.Vichy Dermablend £15
WARNING: this foundation is only to be used on emergency bad
skin days!!!
Let me explain… I LOVE this foundation but it is used for
covering acne and even tattoos.
If I use this for
more than two days I will have THE worse break out ever, but there are days a
couple of times a month (if that) where I break this bad boy out to cover up
any and all redness, blemishes, dark circles. This is not a foundation for the
faint hearted or the oily skinned!
If you have crazily dehydrated skin, or acne I would say this
could maybe be the foundation for you
The colour range is not that great but I guess I got lucky
because the Opal shade suits me just fine.
I really mean it when I say a little goes a LONG way! So do use with a light hand, and if you are even a tad oily be prepared to re-powder at least twice during a full day. Because you have to use so little this foundation will last you forever, so you get value for money.
For this foundation I would stick to using the beauty
blender or other makeup sponge to really lay this over any blemishes.
BONUS: This foundation makes for a great under eye concealer
any day of the week!
3. 1.
Bourjouis CC cream £9.99
This foundation is marketed as a CC cream: ignore the gimmick
and concentrate on the actual product, it is great.
This is another everyday
foundation SO quick and easy to apply, I think it applies best with the beauty
blender instead of a brush, it is another buildable product but just one layer
is the perfect your skin but better look and once powdered the finish is
seamless! The colour is beautiful (Only a couple of shades to choose from
though, so good luck!)
It just brings my face together it really neutralises
any redness, even when I have particularly rosy cheeks and just brightens up my
face as well, I find myself reaching for this foundation on days when I look in
the mirror and just look a bit grey and dull, it is beautifully illuminating.
Brilliant for oily
skin I don’t have to re-powder half way through the day!! Which makes my whole
make up wearing experience a lot more enjoyable, but I would not avoid this one
if you have dryer skin as it aimed at ‘normal’ skin, so it being a godsend for
oily skin is just a very happy accident!
This CC cream could easily be your everyday foundation AND
a night out foundation. I am on my third tube of this magic product and I have
to say it lasts a long time for the size of the tube and how liquid-y this foundation
is I don’t think it is possible to say a bad thing about this foundation.
I think if I had to choose a favourite of the four it
would be this one but shhh don’t tell the others.
4.
Nars Sheer Glow £30.50
I am very sure you have heard every beauty blogger/vlogger and their dog talk about this foundation, and there have been a lot of times I haven't got on with cult/hype products but this one with worth all the rave reviews in the world.
But first things first let me start of with a the most negative. It does NOT come with a pump so I have to awkwardly pour this out on to the back of my hand which can be hard to judge how much product you are getting out and then the annoying part where you try and put some back in the pot and fail miserably whilst making a very expensive mess.
*edit I do believe pumps for Nars can be found at Selfridges so I'll be making a visit there in the very near future.
But my clumsiness aside this foundation just makes you look as though you are glowing from within, the colour match is perfection, which was surprising as I bought this online so used a website that matches your colour up based on colours of other foundations you have used in the past. Brilliant!
It's blends really well and I find works best with a brush ( I use Real Techniques buffing brush, but I think would work better with the expert face brush which I'm waiting for my delivery of)
Not much powder is needed as it is suppose to make you glow so it would be silly to matte it down, but if like me you have oily skin I would powder your t-zone and again after another 3/4 hours.
I tend to save this foundation for a night out or a nice dinner, not my favorite at all for an every day foundation.
It makes a beautiful base for other products and just sits so nicely on your skin, you don't feel like you're wearing any makeup which amazing for a foundation that makes you look so great.
Quite pricey especially if you are as stupid as me and order from the Nars website and not Selfridges and pay a bloody fortune for delivery but I digress. If you are on a budget I wouldn't break the bank to buy this but it is a lovely treat!
And that's my run down on top foundations.
I am sure this will change as I'm always on the hunt!!
What are your staple foundations? Have you found the perfect one? If so let me know!
